Napier man Seth John Forde, 39, a 31-year-old Hastings man and a 23-year-old Havelock North man, who both have interim name suppression, appeared in the Hastings District Court yesterday afternoon.
All three men appeared before a Justice of the Peace, jointly charged with unlawfully detaining a man without his consent with intent to hold him for ransom and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to him.
Forde, who lives at the Outlaws gang pad, was remanded in custody to appear in the Napier District Court on March 7.
The 31-year-old Hastings man was also remanded in custody to appear on the same date.
The 23-year-old Havelock North man was granted bail to reappear in the Napier District Court on March 7.
The three men were supported by about two dozen people who filled the public gallery for the afternoon appearances.
Much of the Ahuriri community were first alerted to police activity in the area on Saturday when they heard a machine cutting through the Outlaws' corrugated iron fence.
Detective Inspector Mike Foster said the police response was a fast-moving inquiry which saw the quick recovery of the victim and three alleged offenders soon arrested, which was an excellent result.
The Outlaws gang was established in Napier in 1968 and was patched over a few years ago by the oldest motorcycle gang in the world, the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, incorporated as the American Outlaws Association to gain a foothold in New Zealand.
