While time doesn't diminish the pain Joy and Allan Raffaelli feel 10 years on from the tragic loss of their son Thomas, the annual football tournament in his memory helps.
Thomas died in a car crash in 2008 and the memorial games are a positive way for his parents, along with family and friends, to remember the teenager, rather than focus on the tragedy itself.
"This will be the ninth year of the tournament and we're really looking forward to it," Joy said.
"It's a really poignant occasion, along with the Wackrow Memorial Youth Award, which remembers the late Constable Graeme Wackrow. Both these occasions are special and it means a lot to me that both continue."
This year football games will be played at the Dannevirke A&P Showgrounds, on Sunday, September 17.
The Dannevirke High School girls' First XI will play at noon against the Dannevirke women's team, while at the same time the high school boys' Second XI will play the Vikings.
