Election Candidate Profile: Kieran McAnulty (Labour Party)
Wairarapa Electorate
The area between Dannevirke and Waipawa has been taken for granted for too long and it's time for a different approach from our MP, Labour candidate Kieran McAnulty says.
"Now's the time for an MP who doesn't just look upon this electorate as just a way into Parliament, but rather one who sees Central Hawke's Bay and the Tararua District as the sole reason for being there," McAnulty said. "I want to give this area its voice back. This is what motivates me."
McAnulty has a varied background, having worked in shearing sheds, as a scrub cutter and as a fencer.
"I then went to the University of Otago and Massey University, before working in the racing industry for 7 years," he said. "However, regional development is my focus. I'm now a company director also working in economic development and I understand the difference central government can make in rural areas. Parts of the Wairarapa electorate are doing well. But we could be doing much better with targeted investment from central government.
