A Napier man's repeated assaults on his partner, including in front of their sleeping infant twins, has resulted him being sentenced to two years' jail - at the age of 23.
During the assaults, attacker Kerry Nind is said to have held the woman's head on the ground and yelled at her: "I may as well stomp your head in. Why shouldn't I do it? I know I am going back to jail. I'll make it worthwhile this time."
Later, he cut her head open by throwing a full can of baby formula at her, and exclaimed: "God. You're bleeding. I better not have to take you to the doctors."
"This nothing yet," he continued. "This is how we are going to live now."
The events of the afternoon of January 2 this year were related in a summary leading to Nind's appearance before Judge Geoff Rea in Napier District Court yesterday.
