One person was taken to hospital after a van and a motorcycle collided northwest of Napier today.

The crash on a section of State Highway 5 between Linden Close and Yule Rd, Eskdale, was reported about 8.15am, and a passersby reported the road was partially closed while emergency services attended to a man on the road.

Police said the road was reopened about 8.50am.

The person initially reported to have suffered moderate injuries, beleived to be aged in his 40s, was taken by St John Ambulance to Hawke's Bay Hospital, about 33km away in Hastings.

The Hawke's Bay DHB said the man was still being assessed.

Fire and emergency services also sent an appliance to a fire on the beach, just off Fannin St, Bay View, Napier.

The fire occurred at 9.34am on Friday.

On Thursday night, fire and emergency services attended another motor vehicle accident in Clive, Hastings, which resulted in the powerlines being down.

The incident occurred at 11.12pm and a spokeswoman said the accident, on Lawn Rd, involved one car.

Three appliances attended the scene.

The condition of the driver was unknown.

They were also called to an alarm activation at Puketapu School, Hastings, on Thursday night.

The incident occurred at 8.56pm and when the fire brigade attended there was a "small fire" in a classroom.

It was "contained pretty quickly", but the fire investigator is at the scene.
