A man has been charged with two pre-dawn burglaries in the Hastings area just five days apart after being interrupted while allegedly on the job at a Hastings commercial premises early on Thursday morning.
Police say they were called to a Heretaunga St business after an alarm activation about 5.55am on Thursday and found a man in the building taking items.
He attempted to flee, but was arrested and his vehicle was seized, with inquiries allegedly linking the 34-year-old to a burglary five days earlier at premises on Te Mata Rd, Havelock North.
The 34-year-old faces two charges of burglary, and quantities of stolen property have been recovered and returned to owners, police say, but investigations are continuing to establish whether the man is linked to other burglaries in the area.
A police spokesperson said it was hoped the arrest would reassure the community that police were working hard to hold offenders to account.
