A 20-year-old man charged with murder after the death of a man in Northern Hawke's Bay at the weekend has been remanded in custody without plea to appear in the High Court in Gisborne on Friday.
Police confirmed today the man appeared in the District Court on Saturday, facing a charge of murdering a 30-year-old who died earlier in the day at a property in the remote township of Tuai, beside Lake Waikaremoana and about 50km northwest of Wairoa.
Police from Wairoa and Gisborne were called to the township about 3am, and were allegedly threatened by a man with a firearm. He was arrested and it was soon afterwards that it was confirmed a man had died at a neighbouring house.
Police had today still not released the name of the deceased or any details of how he died.
