The many positive comments rolling in made Lucy even more excited, though she would have to wait until February 27 to have her hair cut at The Style Lounge in Ahuriri. Those stunning blonde locks will then be sent to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign.
"They want a minimum of 20cm so she doesn't have to shave her head ... but will be donating a long pony tail, she's going to have a short bob or as Lucy would say it's a Dora [The Explorer] cut."
Cancer in its various forms had affected those close to the family which made the cause even more personal.
"We are blessed to have two happy and healthy little girls, but are aware this is not the case for some."
Louisa described her daughter as a wise soul, beyond her years: "She can be a bit of a nanna sometimes".
Business Development Manager for Hawke's Bay Child Cancer Foundation Vicky Rope said it was unusual for someone so young to have such compassion for others.
"It's just adorable and it's incredible firstly because of her age, she shows a really good understanding of what she's doing," Ms Rope said. "She's doing it for the goodness of other children which is something you don't often find."
It was even more special considering the family did not have any prior relationship with the Foundation, and was a perfect example that anyone could do their bit.
"We get a number of people who do head shaves but rather than shaving a child's head, she will still have hair - it shows people can still help without going to the extreme."
Ms Rope was also in desperate need of volunteers to hit the streets throughout Hawke's Bay during their annual collection days on March 20 and 21.
Even giving a few hours to the cause would make a huge difference. To register an interest call: 06) 8703189 or email: vrope@childcancer.org.nz.
