Three Hawke's Bay surf lifesavers have been recognised for their efforts to the service.
Barry Coleman (Waimarama SLSC) and Warwick Jones (Pacific SLSC) received their 50-year service badge while Kim Nilsson (Waimarama SLSC) was given the Distinguished Service Award.
The awards were announced at the NZ Surf Life Saving Awards dinner at the Amora Hotel in Wellington at the weekend.
Although Mr Coleman and Mr Jones didn't attend the event, Mr Nilsson did. The event was hosted by TV presenter Stephen McIvor and was attended by about 150 guests including the Governor-General Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae who presented Mr Nilsson's award.
"It was a nice surprise. I didn't realise he was coming along. I think he had a busy schedule with elections and all that. So it was pretty good of him to spend the time and come and enjoy the night with us."
