What happened to manners

I was in Napier shopping recently - or trying to, at least. My friend and I are both mums and have young babies which are, of course, in buggies.

I cannot get over how rude and ignorant people can be when you are in a shop with a buggy.

They do not move, no matter how they are asked. They turn and glare. Also, one lady leaned across the buggy, pushing it as she did, to my horror as I watched it tip with my baby in it. I would just like to ask where manners have gone? Because people obviously no longer use them.

Powerful writing

I'm writing to applaud Mark Story's recent editorial regarding spouse abuse. It was superbly written and heartfelt ... and therefore powerful. And it demonstrates that reporters indeed have values which shouldn't be "checked at the door" when it comes to telling the public how it really is.

TOM BELFORD, Havelock North

Lack of vision

Re Price Building, Iron Pot, Ahuriri: Napier City Council has no vision. The price of progress is opportunity - you only get one bite at the cherry.

Had the council moved to secure this property, demolish it and create a courtyard area overlooking the harbour, it would have made Ahuriri. It's no good bemoaning and wringing hands if you don't have vision.
