Wairoa's unfair bad press

My "dander" is up, I am starting to boil and smoke is coming out my ears.

We are fed up with all this negative publicity our lovely town is receiving in the paper, on TV and radio.

Our son rang this morning to ask if we had bought a gun yet. He lives in Auckland. We explained to him the people who fired the guns were from out of town. That was not mentioned up here, said he. Of course not. Now even the Prime Minister is putting in his five pennies worth.

Have any of these people even bothered to drive up here? Let me tell you, Wairoa is a gem. Beautiful, bright, tidy, clean and full of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet. We have the river, the beach, plus the magnificent Lake Waikaremoana. Come up here and see for yourself.

We can even show you the seat that Te Kooti sat upon. Dinkum! He knew what a wonderful place our town was.

A and V.J. Edwards, Wairoa.
