Up to us all to keep pond clean
In response to the person who texted HB Today on who is responsible for cleaning up the Humber St pond area, the answer is, of course, all of us.
It is more than disappointing to know that there are lazy, ignorant people who think it is acceptable to foul and leave their rubbish behind when using this fabulous amenity that we are lucky to have. I suggest that if you see anyone leaving rubbish behind you politely remind them not to do so.
If you don't have the confidence to do that, then note the registration of their car and give this to the Napier City Council to deal with. For many years the members of the Ahuriri Estuary Protection Society have conducted clean-ups in this area and around the estuary and we welcome the public to join us on the second Sunday of the month. On Friday, May 27, I saw children from Port Ahuriri School clearing rubbish at the pond, so well done, but it is a pity that this is a lesson they have to learn.
