It was the most boring non Farmers' Market, I apologised to my guests. I would have thought the Farmers' Market was a more genuine Art Deco period experience, than a "High Tea" food stall.
Council, what were you thinking? Please leave the Farmers' Market alone. Remember NZ in the 30s was not all about high teas, dancing, music and cars.
We were an agricultural society and the Art Deco non-farmers' market was an insult to this.Jane ReedNapierNew give-way rulesWhether or not we agree with the new give-way rules, which come into effect on March 25, is not important. How quickly we come to grips with the changes will be crucial.
If the many drivers who still do not display an understanding of the roundabout indicating rules are anything to go by, it's going to take quite some time for the new give-way rules at intersections to be mastered, in which case we should not be surprised if insurance assessors and panel-beaters experience an upsurge in business activity.

Saving our SPCA
Having read Saturday's HB Today I was so very upset to read of the troubles with the Hastings SPCA.
As one of the many people who donated to help build the centre I would be absolutely appalled if it were to close.
So, come on all people who love and care about animals and especially their treatment, let's show them our support and save the centre.
I know times are tight financially but surely some caring businesses could all do a little something to help too.
Every bit will count. Hastings must have an SPCA centre.

Give him a hearing
Another eye opening letter by Larry Dallimore regarding the complete waste of ratepayers money on remedying the erosion problems of Hardinge Rd and Westshore beach.
The lack of response from the Mayor, CEO, and Council is deplorable and shows the contempt with which they treat the citizens and ratepayers of Napier.
Surely they are accountable for the millions of dollars so far spent on so called experts, some of whom have not set foot in the province to give their reports on a solution.
To what end?
Nothing tangible has been done towards the problem, and the years go by. He asks at the end of his letter for any ideas, here's one or two.
Firstly, give Mr Dallimore a hearing, he has more idea than any so called experts about a solution, and guess what? It won't cost us a cent.
His in-depth report is excellent and should be studied, and he's done it gratis.
So far his offer has been disregarded, far better to engage out of town consultants that we, the rate payers, fund!
What does it take to get a response from Mrs Arnott.
I have written letters previously in reply to Mr Dallimore's correspondence and in each letter I have asked for answers from the Council members.
Are they beyond having the courtesy and decency to respond to the people who voted them in? Here's another idea: Get rid of the Mayor and Council if they are not willing to listen.
Take heed officialdom, the public outrage at Councils around the country re the misuse of ratepayers' money could be coming to a town near you.
PS: I cannot wait for the next local by-elections. (Abridged)
