I note Dr Leste Calder's (letter dated April 24) statement regarding MMR vaccinations that the benefits far outweigh the risks.
So in other words Dr Calder is indicating there is a risk involved when vaccinating.
Maybe Dr Calder would not be quite so blase about the risks if he saw first hand what a vaccination can do.
My son was affected by a vaccination back in 1974 along with a number of other babies just in the Hawke's Bay area alone.
I am afraid after watching him suffer for 30 years with severe brain damage along with severe seizures, blindness and numerous other conditions to finally watching him die with a blocked bowel because the health professionals refused to operate, has not been worth the risk I took of having him vaccinated. None of my grandchildren have been vaccinated after my children got first-hand knowledge of how much damage a vaccine can do.
I only wish I had been fully informed.Dawn BedingfieldTaradaleGambling with kidsProtect us from the "protectors". Lester Calder HB medical officer of health uses the Wakefield/Walker-Smith (not Smyth) "show trial" as proof MMR does not cause autism.
He would say that wouldn't he? His job depends on it. Question the safety of vaccination and he would be out.
www.cryshame.co.uk clearly records what the parents of the children studied at Royal Free Hospital London in the 1990s think of the British General Medical Council action in striking off Dr Andrew Wakefield and Dr Walker-Smith.
After reading the whole shameful episode if one wants to still rely on the pronouncements of "medical officers of health" then good luck.
I can think of better bets and gambling with children's futures is not one of them.
