More than 1200 locals from throughout Hawke's Bay will be lacing up their walking shoes to come together for the annual Cancer Society of New Zealand's Relay for Life at the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park today.
This year's event will mark a record-breaking 22 events that will take place across the country as part of a larger movement of more than 6000 Relay for Life events worldwide.
Cancer Society New Zealand Hawke's Bay centre manager Trudy Kirk said about 1200 locals had already registered but she expected a "good handful more" would turn up.
Ms Kirk said the team at Cancer Society had once again been blown away by the public's support for the event.
"Well so far from the teams we've had approximately $50,000 come in. We know that will change over the next few weeks as well. We just appreciate so much the effort people go to and the fundraising they do for us," she said.
