A teenager sentenced to community detention for trying to rob a Flaxmere dairy with his mates has been warned he may be jailed next time.
Maui Maaka, 17, was sentenced in the Napier District Court yesterday for his role in a dairy robbery a group of three teenagers, aged 14 to 17, tried to pull off last year.
He and his associates armed themselves with long knives and a bat to rob the Swansea Island Food Mart in Flaxmere on November 6.
They were unsuccessful in their attempt as dairy owner Rakesh Kumar and his family rushed at the trio when they entered the store, scaring them off.
Maaka was charged with attempted aggravated robbery alongside 17-year-old Mana Huriwai and a 14-year-old, who cannot be named, was put before the Youth Court.
