A man has been sentenced to three years and eight months in jail for a stabbing at the Hastings Top 10 Holiday Park more than four years ago.
The incident happened at the camp on the morning of September 11, 2016, with a man, aged 23 at the time, being admitted to hospital in a critical condition after receiving three stab wounds.
Conan McKay, aged 33 at the time and visiting from Wellington, was arrested and later denied a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, which carries a maximum possible sentence of 14 years' imprisonment, but was found guilty at a trial.
He successfully appealed and a new trial was ordered, but was averted when he pleaded guilty last year to an amended charge of wounding with intent to injure, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years.
According to a summary, McKay was angered over his victim's unauthorised spending of $80 which was supposed to have been used to buy cannabis.
