A combination of speed, inexperience and inattention contributed to the death of Dwayne Bryce Fryer a coroners report says.
Coroner CJ Devonport has released a report into the circumstances which led to the death of the 16-year-old.
The report said on September 23 last year, Dwayne was the driver of a 1995 Honda Civic hatchback car that left Ongaonga Rd and slid backwards off the road through a farm fence, and tumbled 10 metres into a gully before crashing through another farm fence and coming to rest on its roof in a paddock. Dwayne and his 18-year-old front seat passenger Dayton Aramoana-Clarke were both wearing seatbelts. Dwayne died in the crash.
A crash investigation report was completed by Senior Constable Cory Ubels from the Hawkes Bay Serious Crash Unit.
He reported the crash happened about 8.15pm on Ongaonga Rd, Waipawa on a 100km/h section of road.
