Karamu Rotary is looking to hit a hole in one with its next fundraiser for Cranford Hospice.

The Hastings Karamu Rotary Golf Tournament is back for the fourteenth time next month.

Each year, Karamu Rotary supports several charities and Cranford Hospice has been the recipient of the proceeds of the annually organised golf tournament.

Last year the event generated $9900 for Cranford Hospice, and organiser David Harding and fellow Rotarian Paul Bond from HB Nissan came up with an idea to increase the proceeds as well as adding a bit of competitive fun to the tournament.

"We really wanted to be able to donate more than $10k this year, Cranford Hospice needs $2.8 million per year to deliver its palliative care services to the people of Hawke's Bay," says David Harding, who has been organising the event for the past 12 years.

"Paul Bond, from HB Nissan, and myself have been thinking of a fun way of achieving this" Mr Harding said.

"As a fellow Rotarian and golf enthusiast, I said to David: What if HB Nissan sponsored a hole in one, and put up a brand-new Nissan Juke Turbo, RRP $39,990?" says Mr Bond, who is also principal dealer at HB Nissan.

"Initially people didn't believe it, but it is going to happen on Friday October 6."

Mr Harding and Mr Bond decided that the fourth hole was the one to go for.

The only requisite is that players need to be part of a team participating in the Karamu Rotary Cranford Hospice Charity Golf Tournament and they need to preregister their interest for the car on the day.

"We are thrilled with the continued support we receive from the Hastings Karamu Rotary Club," says Nathalie van Dort, Cranford Hospice marketing and fundraising manager.

"And what an awesome opportunity to win a Nissan car," she adds. "According to Golf Digest, who have done 30 years of research, the chances of an ace is 12,500 to 1, so it is do-able."

The tournament allows for only 25 teams maximum, so those looking for a new car and a fun afternoon are being encouraged to hurry and sign up. The Cranford Hospice team will be led by the patron, John Buck.
