Global hotel group Hilton has confirmed its brand is coming to Hawke's Bay despite the planned mortgagee sale of the building leased for the project in Napier.
Hilton Australasia senior manager communications Yasmin Formosa confirmed the DoubleTree by Hilton project, converting former office space into a 52-room hotel in a 13-year-old, four-storey building on the corner of Munroe and Raffles streets, is still going ahead with projected opening in the first half of next year.
It reaffirmed the position of New Zealand hotel developers Sarin Investments, which already operates hotels in Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown and Invercargill, and, with the building leased longterm and already being refurbished had hoped to have the hotel open by early this year.
The building, which had been owned by Napier-based Thackeray Trust, was advertised last Saturday for mortgagee sale by tender, along with the former Langley Twigg building, in related ownership and also in Raffles St.
