Wine enthusiasts were more generous than ever as the annual Hawke's Bay Wine Auction raised $265,500 for Cranford Hospice.

Six-hundred and fifty guests gathered in the Napier Conference Centre to celebrate the 27th annual event.

Event manager Elisha Milmine said she was overwhelmed by the generosity of the guests.

The amount raised was well over last year's record $202,000.

Throughout the year event organisers worked with many of the sponsors to raise funds which could also be included in the final figure gifted to the hospice.

Auctioneer Chris Kennedy showed his talent to successfully rouse the bidders and make sure every lot went for as much as it deserved.

Principal sponsor-WineWorks' Tim Nowell Usticke said it was wonderful to see the Hawke's Bay wine-making community come together for such a great cause.

Hawke's Bay Wine Auction chairwoman Kate Radburnd said the day was an "absolute pleasure".

"By offering the finest, unique wines from Hawke's Bay to our bidders, this auction has become the largest private contributor to Cranford Hospice, something we are very proud of."
