Hawke's Bay protesters believe they remained inside the law when confronting the world's largest seismic survey ship - unlike three Greenpeace activists who will be appearing in Napier District Court later this year.
Last week a group of Ikaroa Rawhiti residents and descendants spent days aboard the Te Matau a Maui waka as they chased down the Amazon Warrior to protest against its search for oil off the East Coast.
Last Monday the Ngati Kahungunu-owned waka intercepted the ship, with its captain Raihana Tipoki speaking with the Amazon Warrior crew via radio.
However, they did not go inside its 500m non-interference zone, or interfere otherwise with the ship.
Earlier this week three Greenpeace activists - executive director Russell Norman, Sara Howell and Gavin Mulvay - were dropped into the water off the Wairarapa coast ahead of the Amazon Warrior, reportedly making it take "evasive action".
