A Hawke's Bay real estate agent with just two years in the commercial property industry has won a rising star award at real estate awards.

Matt Webb of Regent Realty, NAI Harcourts Hawke's Bay, who is based in Hastings, has been named as the Commercial and Industrial Rising Star of the Year at the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) awards 2020.

After 18 years in the education sector, Webb moved into the commercial property industry two years ago.

He said while the award "is a great honour", people "do not achieve things on their own" and he has learnt new things from everyone he meets.

"I've had some great role models along the way," he says, acknowledging Regent Realty business owner Kaine Wilson and general manager James Cooper.

'I am extremely proud of Matt and everything he has achieved in his time working with Regent Realty," Cooper said.

"He is not only a top achiever in his role, he is also a fantastic colleague and friend to everyone in our team."

Webb said the secrets to his success are being a good listener, being empathetic and being able to ask the right questions.
