Armed offenders alert
Armed police were last night believed to have been involved in Napier after reports of a person brandishing an axe at a property in suburban Marewa. A police national communications centre spokeswoman said police were called to Russell Rd about 5.25pm. The St John Ambulance Service had been on standby but was not required and police were "speaking to all parties''. The alert was understood to be over by 7.30pm.
Society on the move
For the first time in 20 years, Cancer Society New Zealand's Hawke's Bay branch is relocating premises. Its move from 207 Nelson St South, Hastings to 310 Orchard Rd starts today. Hawke's Bay manager Trudy Kirk said the move was the first stage of a bigger and exciting project that wold put the Cancer Society in a better position to accommodate the needs of Hawke's Bay communities. Its last day on Nelson St South will be tomorrow. More EVs for council fleet
Two more electric vehicles have joined the Hastings District Council vehicle fleet, with more on the horizon. The first EV was purchased in 2016 as part of a joint programme with electricity lines company Unison and Napier City Council to help promote the evolving technology and charging stations.
