Most major parties selected their representative months ago, meaning these candidates have had months to campaign, door knock and attend public debates. Other parties have been slower to announce, with some staying silent until today's official deadline.
More hopefuls came out of the woodwork yesterday, with the Conservative Party announcing their Napier candidate as Laurence Day, and their Tukituki candidate as Roger Larkins.
Although not vying to represent an electorate, Hawke's Bay businesswoman and Havelock North resident Sarah-Jo Barley is a list candidate for the National Party - placed at number 69.
So far, the six Tukituki candidates are National's Lawrence Yule, Labour's Anna Lorck, Green Party candidate Chris Perley, New Zealand First candidate Joe Kairau, Democrats for Social Credit's Dick Ryan, and Mr Larkins.
In Napier, Labour MP Stuart Nash is going up against National's David Elliott, the Green Party's Damon Rusden, Maori Party candidate Maryanne Marsters, Democrats for Social Credit's Karl Matthys, and Mr Day.
The Wairarapa electorate will be fought between National MP Alastair Scott, Labour's Keiran McAnulty, the Greens' John Hart, and Act party candidate Roger Greenslade.
Three candidates are standing for Ikaroa Rawhiti - Labour MP seeking re-election Meka Whaitiri, Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox, and Green Party candidate Elizabeth Kerekere.
Yesterday the Maori Party, and Act party said they had no further candidates to announce than those already selected.
The Mana Party, The Opportunities Party, Ban 1080 Party, and the Internet Party were not standing anyone in the four electorates.
NZ First, United Future, Democrats for Social Credit, and the Cannabis party did not respond to whether they would be standing candidates, or more candidates than already announced.
