A 74-year-old man died overnight at Hawke's Bay Hospital after the car he was driving ended up on a pedestrian barrier near St Georges Rd earlier this week.
The crash happened about 11.20am on Wednesday. Police confirmed the death and believe a medical condition caused the man to pass out while driving.
They have halted their investigations.
