A Hastings man who was jobless in 2016 is set to embark on his training to become a pilot with the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
Pilot Officer Campbell Abraham, who recently graduated the RNZAF Officer Commissioning Course at Base Woodbourne in Blenheim, lost two jobs in six months before joining the Air Force in 2016.
The 24-year-old worked as an apprentice before an opportunity arose to join the Air Force as a Security Forces Specialist.
"I got made redundant from my job and a mate who was in service at the time was seemingly living the good life, doing heaps of cool stuff," he said. "So I wanted to get involved.
"It felt like I was finally on my feet again when I received the good news that I had been accepted on the first recruit course of 2016."
