The Greendale Swim Club needs more than $100,000 to upgrade its filtration system or the community pool will have to close.
The pool, owned by Taradale Primary School and leased by the swim club, teaches swim safety to more than 1500 children from four schools. It was also used for adult swim for health lessons, physiotherapy treatment, and disabled swimming sessions.
Increased use was straining the filtration system, which was likely to work for another 12 to 24 months. A new system would cost $270,000 and the school had earmarked $150,000 of health and safety funding for the upgrade. Napier City Council would consider funding part of the upgrade as part of its long term plan and the club and school would continue to fundraise for the project.
