The newly-opened temporary road through the Manawatu Gorge has seen the weather and travellers playing ball.
The partial reopening of the gorge stretch is "strictly subject to weather and on site conditions", says NZ Transport Agency Palmerston North state highways manager David McGonigal.
It was a case of "so far, so good" in that respect.
Which was also the case for the response of motorists with traffic running smoothly.
"We want to thank motorists for taking it easy in these early stages while we all get used to having traffic flowing through the gorge," Mr McGonigal said.
