A group of 14 Central Hawke's Bay College students have made off with a swag of gold - Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Gold Awards, that is.
Thirteen of the students were presented with their awards in Wellington on September 18.
They were given the prizes by the Governor-General, Sir Anand Satyanand for service, skill, physical activity, and tramping.
The students had been working towards their prize for four years, previously gaining their Bronze and Silver Awards.
Benjamin Carpenter also completed his Gold Award this year but was unable to attend the ceremony due to his selection commitment to the Hawke's Bay Under-18 Rugby team.
The students were accompanied by some proud parents, and acting principal Garth Sherwood..
"It was great to see that once again Central Hawke's Bay College was well represented at this level of endeavour and achievement," Mr Sherwood said.
Marvin Nui said he and the other students were all proud to have achieved such a prestigious award.
"I enjoyed experiencing New Zealand at its best and meeting and making new friends through the Duke of Edinburgh programme," he said.
"For me it was not about completing each stage but getting out there and giving things a go beyond my comfort zone."
