Tomorrow was expected to be a much calmer day, with some cloudy periods and isolated afternoon showers. A high of 16C would be cooled down with forecast westerlies.
The range of weather was "nothing too unusual for a spring weekend".
"Hawke's Bay is probably one of the better places to be this weekend," Ms Haddon said, noting thunderstorms were forecast for the West Coast.
Luckily there is a host of indoor activities on this weekend, including the New Zealand International Film Festival with showings at locations across Hawke's Bay - such as the MTG Century Theatre in Napier, and Havelock North's Event Cinemas.
For smaller ones, the Weber Bros Circus is set to entertain with twice daily shows at the Hawke's Bay A&P Showgrounds.
Others will be braving the rain with the Napier Colour Run, and Ocean Beach Half Marathon, 14km & 6km events on Sunday.
More rain could lash Hawke's Bay on Monday, Ms Haddon said, with showers developing - mainly about the ranges - and expected to clear later in the day. Southwesterlies would develop, and become strong near the coast for a time.
Temperatures would dip slightly, with a high of 14C in Hastings, 12C in Wairoa, and 11C in Waipukurau.
This "showery situation" was expected to have cleared by Tuesday, Ms Haddon said, with the weather set to be mainly fine with southwesterlies dying out.
By Wednesday, temperatures were set to soar to 18C in Hastings, and 16C in Waipukurau.
It would be mainly fine with high cloud, and northwesterlies developing.
