Fire Service and Police officers have this morning been at the scene of a gas leak in the Omahu industrial district in Hastings.
The alarm was raised at 8.55am after a smell of gas was reported in Kelfield Pl, just west of the Omahu Rd intersection with the Hawke's Bay Expressway.
Two Fire Service appliances attended and police blocked access to Kelfield Pl, but, with the source identified and gas company staff on the scene the alert was lifted just under an hour after the alarm was raised.
A Fire Service Hastings officer said the gas company used testing equipment and quickly identified a source for the leak in the ground outside a commercial premises. It was "nothing major" and was being left to the gas company at the scene.
The incident followed two more serious alerts which had closed street in Hastings in the last fortnight, the previous alerts resulting from pipes being ruptured during excavations.
