The weather always had a part to play in numbers each year with sunnier days having many more participants, she said.
"The weather held off for us so that was really good.
"I can safely say that everyone out on the course thoroughly enjoyed the weather."
There were quite a few participants talking part in the 21km part of the course for the first time including a 13-year-old girl from near Norsewood who had been training every day before and after school for months by running up and down her 2km driveway.
"She was a little pocket-rocket, totally self-motivated" Mrs Heremaia said.
Another woman who entered had made it her goal to walk one event a month throughout the entire year.
Sport Hawke's Bay and CHB Health Centre sent their own teams of cyclists and walkers to support.
"Everyone that took part had lots of fun, there were lots of comments that it was a well-organised and fun event.
"Many people are already taking about coming back next year and bringing their friends."
Holding an event like this in July was a good way of helping people keep fit and work towards something during winter, she said.
The course started in the historic Norsewood Village and went through scenic country back roads to Takapau Primary School.
People could take part as individuals or teams, running or walking 21km or 10km or cycling 20km, 30km or 40km.
Free shuttle buses were provided either way between the start and finish points before and after the event.
