It started out as a way for neighbouring Lions Clubs to interact and mingle now the Norsewood to Takapau Fun Challenge is a fixture on the calendar.
Ten years on and the event has turned into a highlight for many walkers, runners and recently cyclists, attracting about 249 participants last year from throughout the region and as far as Wellington and Hamilton.
A new 10km section has been added this year as well as the usual options of walking or running 21.1km or cycling 20, 30 or 40km either as an individual, group or relay team in either the social or competitive sections.
Sport Hawke's Bay development officer Nicki Heremaia said "grab some mates or whanau and get active together". Whether you cycle, walk or run the course by yourself or as part of a relay, anyone can get involved and have a great experience, she said.
"Starting from the historic Norsewood Village, take the back roads to Takapau on an undulating course, encompassing beautiful dairy country and passing the Southern Star Abbey " with the snow-capped Ruahine Ranges in the background."
