Less than a year after charges were introduced for people parking their cars on the vacant railway land off Munro St in Napier the site has again become a free parking area.
The $3-a-day charge was applied after Westshore-based industrial relations and accident compensation lawyer Piers Hunt set up a lease agreement for the site, which is owned by the Crown.
Mr Hunt said at the time the parking fee was minimal, and he created marked-out parking spaces and set up signage, which displayed how people could go about getting the appropriate vouchers.
While Napier City Council public parks charged $1 an hour the charge he applied was for a day.
But motorists stayed away and only a small number used the area.
