The Conroy Removals-sponsored Blues beat Wellington United 3-0 at Newtown Park in the capital city on Saturday in their Lotto Central League match to move up to second place on the ladder.
"At halftime there was this huge downpour and there was surface water all over the pitch," said player/coach Bill Robertson, his side having led 1-0 at the break from rightback Fergus Neil's 21st-minute goal.
"It made it difficult to play football and while it was a battle, we did a professional job to come away with three points," Robertson said, after co-captain Danny Wilson scoring in the 67th minute and striker Stephen Hoyle adding another in the 82nd.
Cup and league slayers Miramar Rangers did the Blues a favour, beating top-rung Wellington Olympic 3-0 to keep alive Napier's quest for only the second back-to-back league crowns after Miramar's feat in 2013-14.
