Jacqui Hartley-Smith has never had the flu vaccine and doesn't plan to, despite having the flu once before.
"I know a lot of people who do get it, then get sick. It includes too many 'poisons'. I'm not against vaccinations. But I prefer to boost my immune system naturally with a healthy diet and natural foods," she said.
Hartley-Smith said she was eligible for the free vaccine now that she was over 65, but preferred to stick to natural measures.
"I did get the gastro bug from the Havelock North water disaster and believe doctors are reluctant to give flu vaccine to people who may have a lowered natural immunity following that outbreak."
Like a number of people, she was also wary of taking the vaccine as she wasn't clear on what it contained and how it would affect her.
