If the response on social media is anything to go by, the first-ever "float-in" movie night at Backpaddock Lakes in Takapau this Saturday should be a success.
The waterski and cable park in Central Hawke's Bay revealed in a Facebook post last month it would be hosting the novel outdoor event (think back to the old days of drive-in movies, but with moviegoers floating on inflatable devices while watching a flick, rather than sitting in their cars) on January 6.
The post asked people to click on different emojis to cast their vote for which movie they wanted to see most - either Steven Spielberg's classic thriller, Jaws, or the surfing, skydiving, bank heist, adrenaline-fuelled Point Break, starring Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze.
The post was voted on by more than 430 people and by late December had been shared more than 100 times, reaching more than 16,000 people.
"Yeah, it got a lot of attention - I just hope we have enough room for all the flotation devices," laughed Trevor Rowlands, who opened the water park with wife Charlotte back in 2011.
