Fishermen and fisherwomen waiting with bated breath in Napier last night were able to relax with news that they should be able to get two days of action in the Your Solutions MegaFish competition which was to have started today.
Competition convener Joe Bicknell, who had worried the weather brewing towards the end of the week could cause a rare postponement, told them at the briefing at the Hawke's Bay Sports Fishing Club on Ahuriri's Nelson Quay that while there's no competition today it'll be back on for the originally scheduled second and third days tomorrow and Monday.
"The conditions for Saturday are not good," he said. "There's a strong southerly. But then it's easing off, with a little bit from the north on Monday."
With the meteorological duties out of the way, he told Hawke's Bay Today entries had during the briefing risen to about 220, about 100 since "early bird" registrations closed a week earlier.
With prizes worth more than $50,000 up for grabs, he had originally hoped for entries to total over 300, more in line with with those common to the Coruba shark hunt and MegaFish tournaments which had run for over 35 years and from which the new tournament was spawned.
