With change hanging over the composition of Napier's city council after the local Government elections, experienced city-wide representative Faye White says its essential to continue with a "fiscally responsible" council which can progress the city with low cost to the ratepayers.
A councillor since her first election in 2001, sheis one of five councillors among the 16 candidates vying for the six Council-At-Large seats, while only two incumbents are among the 18 variously seeking to represent the city's electoral wards.
She had six years with a finger on the pulse as finance committee chairwoman, and more recently has been deputy on the major projects and tourism and development committees.
She's also on the Marine Parade Redevelopment Group and represents the council on Napier Inner City Marketing. She is also an accredited hearings commissioner.
If re-elected, she will become the council's elder stateswoman, following the retirements of Mayor Barbara Arnott, deputy and At-Large councillor Kathie Furlong, and Taradale ward member Tania Wright.
In the past she has supported street liquor bans and preservation of a safe, clean and green image for Napier, and is now keen to see the city flourish with the Kids Capital redevelopment of Marine Parade, vibrant retail and accommodation sectors, commercial ventures, enhancement of Westshore Beach, and promotion of youth activities and sports events.
She's particularly proud of her own initiative which led to the placement of "active" school zones, and her advocacy of better dog control. Her qualification for her council roles includes studies in finance, accounting and business law at Massey University.
