Firefighters have left the scene of a fire which threatened forestry and other plantation in remote country northwest of Napier on Sunday night.
The fire was reported at 5.46pm on Sunday in a small area of new pine off Pohokura Rd, north Napier-Taupo highway landmark Te Haroto.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager said urban crews from Napier and Hastings had left the scene by 9.30pm and a small number of rural fire volunteers returned today to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Three helicopters had been on standby, while fire volunteers from the Bay View brigade and the Kotemaori and Te Pohue rural fire forces were also called.
One of the helicopters was understood to have been used in fighting the fire.
