The popular Hapī Ora cafe in Napier makes some of the best health food in Hawke's Bay.
However, it is the way it treats its customers and its focus on sustainability that has impressed judges ahead of the upcoming 2021 Pan Pac Hawke's Bay Business Awards.
Hapī Ora is oneof nine finalists named for the prestigious awards night on November 12, and will be up for two top awards.
A full list of finalists and categories can be found below.
Hapī Ora owner Gretta Carney said the main vision for her cafe was to "manifest values" in everything they do.
"The business is secondary to values. That is how a kaupapa Māori business operates," she said.
That is on show through their organic and healthy food options and their customer care.
"We want everyone to have something that is delicious and nourishing and we want it to be fast - we pride ourselves in the summer of being really busy but never missing a beat," she said.
"We never want anyone to wait more than a certain amount of time for something. If they do we have failed. We really hold ourselves to account in that way."
The cafe co-leases a building alongside organic shop Chantal on Hastings St in Napier.
Hapī Ora, which has operated since 2015, also grows its own veggies and is a regular at Hawke's Bay Farmers' Market.
The 2021 awards will be held at Toitoi Hawke's Bay Arts and Events Centre in Hastings on Friday, November 12.
There are five categories and awards including Best Emerging Business, Outstanding Community Contribution, Excellence in Innovation, Excellence in Sustainability and Ultimate Visitor Experience.
At the end of the night, a Supreme Award will also be announced.
The Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce organises the event each year to celebrate businesses from Wairoa down to Central Hawke's Bay.
The awards night will be held under Covid restrictions but will go ahead as a face-to-face event this year.
