It's too soon to tell how snow affected stock numbers but many farmers welcomed the rain after a dry few months.
While Otane farmer Hugh Ritchie said there had not been as much rain in Central Hawke's Bay as in northern areas, what they did receive had "been very good, we certainly needed it".
"We got enough to make everything damp but not enough to do damage," he said.
"The reality is some places have had very low rainfall amounts this year but we're only a few weeks away from spring. [The rain] has been beneficial ... otherwise we would have been in for a pretty long summer".
There had been some wind damage in CHB, but Mr Ritchie said he had not heard of any farmers losing stock.
