One of the favourite attractions of Marineland in its heyday has died.
Bart, a male New Zealand fur seal died at Marineland on Thursday last week.
The seal arrived at Marineland on 15 October 1996 and, although blind, lived to 17 years of age. In seal terms that's considered elderly.
An autopsy of Bart was undertaken by Dr Mike Lintott of Carlyle Vet Clinic and preliminary results indicated congestive heart failure, severe chronic liver disease and generalised renal disease.
Based on the seal's continual refusal to eat, lack of response to medication and deteriorating condition, he was euthanased on the recommendation of Dr Lintott.
