A forestry worker has died near Tutira after a tree fell on him

A forestry worker has died after a tree fell on him in a forest north of Napier early this afternoon.

The man was working on a Pan Pac forestry block inland from Tutira, north of Napier when a tree fell on him and crushed him.

Police and ambulance were alerted just after 1pm and are on their way to the scene.

The forestry block is isolated and can only be accessed by four-wheel-drive.

The man's death has been referred to WorkSafe NZ.
