Hardinge Rd residents are pleased work is starting on an area of sea erosion along the foreshore in Ahuriri, Napier.
Large waves have eroded a section of rocks and part of the embankment less than 2m from the Rotary Pathway.
The $200,000 repair work was expected to start today.
One local resident, who asked not to be named, said she had contacted the Napier City Council last July about her concerns and had been disappointed by its response.
"If they had worked on it way back in July it would have been two truckloads needed not 10," she said.
