Abigail May shed more than a few tears in the trenches and at grave sites of fallen Anzac soldiers.
She followed their steps from the shores of Anzac cove to Chunuk Bair - stopping at Rhododendron Ridge for a moving rendition of The Last Post.
At 16, the Woodford House student recalls an experience most people will never have - taking part in 100-year celebrations on an icy-cold morning in Gallipoli.
As one of 25 Kiwi youth ambassadors she joined 2000 other New Zealanders and 8000 Australians at the official service on April 25.
"It's difficult to explain to people at home, but it was incredible - from hearing our national anthem sung in Turkey, to the way Turkish people conduct themselves around New Zealanders and Australians," she told Hawke's Bay Today.
