If disaster should strike Napier the Salvation Army has an emergency food truck perched high on the city's Hospital Hill ready to help but it needs a new home.
Although the Sallies' emergency depot on Faraday St has been put up for sale, the mobile response unit that lives there can be easily moved to a new base, Hawke's Bay Civil Defence Emergency Management Group controller Ian Macdonald said.
"Nothing will be changing in terms of our role with disaster response. The advantage of having an emergency truck means we just have to drive it to a new location and it can operate from there.
"The Salvation Army is an active member of our Welfare Co-ordination Group which meets every couple of months to develop relationships and co-ordinate welfare plans. As such the Salvation Army is an important part of our welfare response in Hawke's Bay.
"We also have an agreement for them to activate and provide their food truck in support of the response to an event if requested and we have helped fund equipment in the truck in the past. This is all stored at their Faraday St depot along with an amount of food."
