Mr Hall said "It is an environmental risk so the Fire Service has done everything we can do with the spillage".
Due to the nature of the chemical and possibility of having to decontaminate people - which did not eventuate, the Fire Service had resources from Norsewood, Ormondville, Takapau, Dannevirke and Hastings in attendance.
The driver seemed to be suffering from shock but was sent to hospital as a precaution, he said.
A crane will lift the tanker out from its current position this morning, and the diversion on SH2 is expected to stay in place until mid-day.
The diversion starts at Takapau and takes people round the back roads to avoid this event.
About 30 Fire Fighter's dealt with the incident and more resources would go down again today oversee the event and to make sure it is all safe.
A police spokeswoman said "the driver had minor injuries, however there is some fuel leakage and the vehicle will need to be removed with a crane".
Police are still advising motorists of delays on State Highway 2 near Takapau, north of Norsewood.
"There is a diversion down Matamau Ormondville Road while arrangements are made for the truck to be removed," she said.
It is the second major accident that has occurred at the bend within the last six months, with the first being a double fatality.
Mr Hall wanted to emphasise the danger of the corner not only to truck drivers but to car drivers and everyone else who uses the road.
"It is a dangerous bend and people just need to treat it with respect and slow down. It is a 90 degree bend after a straight road and if you don't slow down to the indicated speeds on the approach you are going to struggle getting around it."
