A man broke into a Hastings home early this morning and assaulted an elderly man.
A couple aged in their seventies were woken about 8.15am this morning and confronted by the intruder inside their home.
The offender, described as in his late teens, broke a window at the couple's Longlands Rd property to gain entry. He assaulted the man before leaving in a dark coloured sedan.
Detective John Brans of the Hawkes Bay CIB said the man received minor injuries for which he received medical attention. His wife was not injured.
"The couple are understandably shaken. They have been supported by family and victim support today after what was a traumatic incident," he said.
